Anime Cafe Kenya
Nairobi's original anime and manga community since 2012. Regular screenings, discussions, and fan meetups.
Kenya's home of the pop culture experience since 2011.
Movie Jabber was born in 2011 when Jotham Micah looked around Nairobi and realised the city's pop culture community had no real home. Anime fans gathered in corners of the internet, gamers organised through word of mouth, and cosplayers had nowhere to show off months of painstaking craftsmanship. He decided to build that home — and Movie Jabber was the result.
What started as a small media outfit quickly grew into something bigger. The community wanted more than content — they wanted to meet each other. Anime Cafe Kenya's informal gatherings from 2012 became a regular fixture, formalising in 2015 into one of Nairobi's most beloved fan communities. Gaming nights, cosplay workshops, and comic book days followed, each finding its own dedicated audience.
2020 was the test nobody asked for. COVID-19 forced a full pivot: Otamatsuri went virtual, proving that a fandom event could survive — even thrive — without a physical venue. The community showed up in numbers that would have seemed impossible even a year before. When it came time to return to in-person events, the energy was electric. The 2025 edition of Otamatsuri drew over 3,700 attendees to KICC, cementing Movie Jabber's place as East Africa's premier pop culture organiser.
Today, Movie Jabber Limited operates across conventions, gaming events, K-pop experiences, cosplay workshops, and community media from its base on Ngong Road, Nairobi. The tagline "A World of Fandom" is not just marketing — it is a promise to every anime fan, gamer, cosplayer, comic reader, and K-pop stan who calls Kenya home.
