K-Pop Fest KE 2024: bringing Korea to Nairobi

K-Pop Fest KE came together in two weeks. That is not a boast — it is the clearest possible indication of how deep the demand for Korean pop culture events runs in Nairobi. Over 300 fans showed up for the inaugural edition, many of whom had been waiting years for an event like this to exist in the city.

What Happened on the Day

The programme covered the full range of Hallyu culture: K-pop dance cover performances from Kenya's leading idol groups, a K-drama screening marathon, a K-beauty demonstration that drew one of the largest audiences of the day, and a Webtoon showcase featuring Kenyan digital artists who work in the medium.

The dance cover showcase was the emotional centrepiece. Groups that had been practising in living rooms and community halls for months finally had a proper stage and a crowd that knew every move. The standard of performance surprised even the organisers.

K-Pop Fest KE now returns annually as part of the Movie Jabber calendar. The 2025 edition will be held at Alliance Française Nairobi with a significantly expanded programme.
